Clinic Overview

With Reining coming to next year’s 4-H events, NOW is the time to start preparing!

Our clinic will focus on both Showmanship and Reining, giving riders a better understanding of what judges are looking for and how to effectively show their horse in each event.

​

We’ll cover how each event works, how it is judged and scored, how to read and understand a scorecard, common penalties and mistakes, and how to effectively present your horse to earn the best score possible. We’ll also work on the skills and maneuvers riders can take home and continue practicing throughout the winter.

​

The goal is to give riders a solid foundation now so they can head into the 2027 show season feeling prepared and confident instead of overwhelmed by a new event.

• L1 — 13 & Under
• L2 — 13 & Under
• L1 — 14–18
• L2 — 14–18
• Adult

Level 1 is geared toward newer riders, greener horses, or those who need more help building a strong foundation.

​

Level 2 is for riders and horses who already have a solid foundation and are ready for more technical instruction, detailed pattern work, and help fine-tuning their performance.

🏆 Practice Show + Prizes

After the clinic, riders will have the chance to put what they learned to work in a fun practice show! Events will include:

Showmanship • Reining • Barrels • Flag Race

​

We’ll also briefly go over Flag Race rules and expectations so riders know how the event works before competing.

​

We will hold another clinic in March to build on what we learn at this clinic. Riders who participate in the first clinic and continue practicing throughout the winter can move into their appropriate Level 2 age group in March, where we’ll focus on more technical skills and continue advancing their performance.

The idea is simple: learn it now, work on it all winter, and come back in March ready to take the next step. Our goal is to help every rider enter the 2027 show season with more knowledge, confidence, and tools to be successful!
